Postgraduate Dental School & Clinic at Lackland AFB Wins USAF Award

The JE Dunn + Hoefer Wysocki Architecture National Healthcare Design-Build Team is excited to announce that the Postgraduate Dental School and Clinic project, located in Texas at Lackland Air Force Base, has been awarded an Honor Award for Facility Design through the U.S. Air Force Design Awards Program. Jurors’ comments included “outstanding layout description and sustainability features, excellent incorporation of native limestone, and interior spaces truly provide an inspiring working environment.” This is the fourth award given to this LEED Gold Certified project, second from the U.S. Air Force. Past awards include: 2011 U.S. Air Force Honor Award for Concept Design in Industrial Design; 2012 Design-Build Institute of America Mid-America Region (DBIA-MAR), Honor Award for Healthcare Projects Over $10 Million; and 2014 International Interior Design Association Award, Honorable Mention for Healthcare Interior Design.

Colorado Springs VA Outpatient Clinic broke ground on Veterans Day

The Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Colorado Springs broke
ground on its new 76,731 square foot clinic on Monday, November 12, 2012. The
clinic is anticipated to open in the spring of 2014 and will include programs
such as audiology, physical therapy, optometry and mental health. For more

Air Force Postgraduate Dental School and Clinic ribbon cutting ceremony

Last week, Hoefer Wysocki attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the Air Force Postgraduate Dental School and Clinic at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The new dental facility will not only provide patients with state-of-the-art care, but it will aid in the training of Air Force dental residents. Olathe Parking Garage Wins Project of the Year

The Olathe Parking Garage, located in Olathe, Kansas, has been awarded Project of the Year in the category of projects between $5 – $10 M, by the Associated General Contractors of America. The expansion of this building increased the available parking to 706 stalls. This 6 level 100,000 SF building is designed to LEED Silver Criteria.  The design-build team consisted of Hoefer Wysocki Architects and Turner Construction. This project will be highlighted in the Modern Builder Magazine this month.

HWA Commits to Sustainable Design by Participating in the 2030 Challenge

Hoefer Wysocki Architects has commited to sustainable design by signing up for the 2030 Challenge. Architecture 2030 is a non-profit, non-partisan and independent organization.

By signing up we have agreed to adopt the following targets:
– All new buildings, developments and major renovations shall be designed to meet a fossil fuel, GHG-emitting, energy consumption perfermance standard 50% of the regional (or country) average for that building type.
– At a minimum, an equal amount of existing building area shall be renovated annually to meet a fossil fuel, GHG-emitting, energy consumption performance standard of 50% of the regional (or country) average for that building type.
– The fossil fuel reduction standard for all new buildings and major renovations shall be increased to 60% in 2010, 70% in 2015, 80% in 2020, 90% in 2025 and carbon-neutral in 2030 (using fossil fuel GHG emitting energy to operate).

These targets may be accomplished by implementing innovative sustainable design strategies, generating on-site renewable power and/or purchasing (20% maximum) renewable energy and/or certified renewable energy credits.

Recent Project Award in Garnett, Kansas

We are pleased to announce that we have been selected to provide architectural services for Anderson County Hospital located in Garnett, Kansas. The facility will be a critical access acute care hospital. Original construction dates back to 1949 with numerous renovations and additions over the last several years. Saint Luke’s Health System operates Anderson County Hospital.

Recent Project Award in Salt Lake City

HWA is pleased to announce that we have been selected to provide architectural services for the Department of Homeland Security – Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Office, located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This new 60,000 SF building will include facilities for the Office of Detention and Removal (DRO); the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA) and the Department of Justice, Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). This GSA design-build project will be designed with the goal of LEED Silver certification. BC Development will serve as Project Developer and Jacobsen Construction as General Contractor.

Ft. Bliss Soldier Family Care Clinic Construction Progress

HWA teamed with Walton Construction on the Ft. Bliss Soldier Family Care Clinic, located in El Paso, Texas. This 144,000 SF project is currently under construction, estimated to be completed in June of 2010. This outpatient clinic includes primary care, pediatric, aviation medicine, physical exam, physical therapy, optometry, preventive medicine, mental health clinics, pharmacy, lab, radiology, medical records, administrative and building support functions. It is designed to be LEED Silver, but is not certified yet.

Kansas City Metro Patrol Station is Under Construction

Construction on the Kansas City Metro Patrol Station, in Kansas City, Missouri, has officially started. HWA and Titan Construction Organization have teamed together on this 28,000 SF project that consists of community rooms, meeting rooms, conference rooms, areas for holding and detention, detainees, evidence storage and a vehicle sallyport. Office spaces include administration, detectives, records, investigations, field operations, tactical response unit and sworn officers. The HWA design team is working towards attaining a Silver LEED Rating for this project. It is estimated to be completed in the Spring of 2010.

Shawnee Justice Center Officially LEED Certified

The Shawnee Justice Center of Shawnee, Kansas has officially obtained LEED Certification at the Certified Level. This 77,000 SF project includes a fire station, police station and courthouse. This public safety campus, completed in June of 2008, was a design-build project with McCownGordon Construction. View more of our LEED projects.
